Capacity of a 53' Dry Van

You just ordered a truck load of materials from your supplier and they told you where you can pick it up.

Your shipper does not arrange transportation? You'll need to find a truck, arrange pickup and delivery times based on shipping and receiving hours (and available appointment times). Of course, we can help with that, but first, a few details:

How much packaged material can fit in a 53' trailer?

Standard Dimensions:
53 Foot Length (Outside), 52'6" Length (Inside). Give yourself 6 inches for doors, etc.
102: Wide (Outside), 99" (Inside). Give a few inches for walls, etc.
13'6" Height (Outside from ground), 9' Tall, approximately 108-110 inches (Inside).

Type of truck: Day cab or Sleeper?
Any truck will not exceed 80,000lbs Gross, so sleepers tend to be a little heavier and won't take a load over 44,500, but we'd recommend trying to stay in the 42,000 range. A day cab can handle a little more and you might find a carrier that will haul just over 45,000lbs, but make sure to ask up front to save yourself a headache later. In either case, be sure to know the gross weight of your shipment, this includes the materials as well as the weight of the packaging. Each skid as well as if it is in: Drums, Supersacks, Totes or Gaylords or just wrapped in plastic for example.

Every situation has its own variables, but these basics should be enough to get you started.

From there, it is a simple mathematic eqation of inches and weight capacity. Need help, contact us and we'd be happy to help!
